Say G’day to your camping neighbours, here is a few tips on being a friendly camping neighbour, they may help everyone to enjoy their campground stays more.
When you have set up camp say hi to your camping neighbours, most campers are interested in where you are going and already travelled, so ask them the same.
Most campsites have a rule of a quiet time at night. usually about 10pm, so try to obey this rule,
Keep your campsite reasonably neat and free of rubbish.
Don’t build big campfires like a bonfire, that can send sparks flying.
Put out your campfire before going to bed.
Keep your dog or another pets caged or under your control.
When you leave your campsite for an outing, pack all food and rubbish away so birds aren’t attracted and make a mess.
Read Campsite or Park rules and abide by them.
When you are leaving the campsite leave it clean and remember to check you have picked all your belongings.
Many long term friends have been made in campsites, we met a family that we camped next to at Ayers Rock campground in 2000, we have met up with them every year since, including a 6 week tour of the Kimberleys and a recent 3 week 4WD adventure around the eastern side of Central Australia. This is a friendship we treasure and only happened because we camped next to them and our kids and their kids started playing cricket. The bonus was we were going the same way for the next 10 days so we got to know them very well. We said the day that we departed that we would go to the Kimberleys in 2003. We did and it was amazing.
