When you are thinking about how to plan a good route for your next holiday decide your destinations and general direction in which you want to go – what States or Territorys you want to visit.
Consider these suggestions as you are making your plans
As a general rule visit southern Australia in summer and northern Australia in winter.
Phone tourist information for the towns you intend to visit and also check online for further information.
Check the weather conditions of your intended route – conditions can vary greatly around Australia
Be aware of that the ‘wet season’ causes dramatic changes from November to April in the northern states, ‘Top End” and Outback– Generally June, July and August are good months to visit Northern Australia.
Use up to date detailed maps of the intended destinations, if you are 4WDriving use the maps to suit as they are more detailed.
If you are travelling through National Parks you may need ‘Park Permits’ especially if you are driving on and visiting Aboriginal Land
When you are visiting towns go to the Tourist information Centre and see what attractions and Holiday Parks or Campgrounds they recommend.
Ask other campers what places they like or disliked. We all have different ideas on what is good or not, but it is still worth asking their opinion.
Be realistic with your daily travel goals, allowing time for relaxation and arriving at your new destination or campground around 3 or 4 o’clock, to allow for setup well before dark.
Keep your plans a bit flexible, you find a beautiful place to stay at so you may stay there 3 or 4 nights or you might stay some places one night.
