Camp cooking is very popular and can be anything from dehydrated meals requiring hot water added to the roast or stew cooked in the camp oven. Camp cooking can be fun and is enjoyed by everyone. We usually keep meals easy and similar to what we have at home mostly and usually include a camp oven roast with vegies when we are away for a long weekend.

This may be a bit boring for some but it does make it easy and it does not require buying any special or different foods which makes preparation and packing easier.

Depending on where we are going we would usually arrive late morning or mid afternoon, the first meal would usually be easy like salad rolls as no cooking is required. Another easy option is pasta, or a meal prepared at home and just needs heating like soup or a stew etc.

Breakfast is usually cereal or  toast cooked on the campfire or occasionally eggs and bacon. Lunch might be hamburgers in rolls, barbeque meat or egg and bacon muffin. Which is usually cooked on the campfire on a large hot plate, if we can have a camp fire otherwise it’s cooked on the gas stove. The campfire is preferred as it always seems to taste better and more special. Dinner can be barbecue meat, roast, stew, baked potatoes or pasta etc. The possibilities are endless there are many camping recipes available.

Our meals are usually easy when we are camping, but it does not mean that they are not tasty. Camp cooking is an important part of cooking, kids love being involved, but it does not have to be a burden and take all day to prepare and cook.
