You have been camping, had a great time and you have arrived home and you realise you have to unpack your camping equipment..groan!!..back to the real world.
Unpacking is never enjoyable but someone has to do it. It’s far better to get it done straight away rather than have camping gear sitting around.
When we get home from camping everyone helps and it gets done much quicker and most of the equipment gets stored straight away.
If possible have a separate cupboard or area to store you camping equipment together, this makes it much easy when you go camping next time
Before Leaving Camp
When you pack up your camping equipment clean it as you pack it up, this will make it easier when you get home.
- Clean or wipe fridge, stoves, tables, camp oven etc
- Sweep out the tent before packing and brush it as you fold it up.
- Shake out sleeping bags, blankets etc
Arriving Home
- Dry any gear that has got wet, especially your tent, put your tent up for a few days or if the weather isn’t suitable lay it out in a shed or undercover somewhere.
- If anything has got muddy wash or sponge of any dirt and air out till dry.
- Clean your cooking equipment, stove, camp oven etc – if you didn’t when you left camp.
- Sort out clothes to be washed and store luggage bags. A useful idea is each person has a separate bag for their washing, makes it much easier when you get home
- Empty fridge or esky and remove all food and drinks and wipe out plug in fridge if you use it as a second fridge and dry and store esky,
- Store sleeping bags, blankets and other bedding off ground level away from creepy crawlies
- Take note of anything that needs fixing and replacing before the next camping trip
- Hang up or store coats, hats and wet weather gear, dry first if necessary
- Remove batteries from torches, radios etc as they can corrode and leak and damage your equipment
- Keep all the smaller items like cooking utensils, plates, bowls and all other smaller items in plastic tubs with lids, preferably use several tubs for different types of equipment
By following these helpful tips your next camping trip will be much easier and you will be more organised so you can stress less and have a great time.
