Taking toddlers and your other young children on a camping trip, holiday or travelling for a day or a week or more is always going to be a challenge. But it can be done if you are prepared, have a flexible itinerary and take timeout to enjoy your surroundings and go for walks etc and watch your kids enjoy the experience.
Surprisingly the effort it takes for going away for a weekend isn’t much different to going away for a month, of course you will need to stock up on supplies as you need them.
Holidaying with toddlers and older children is fun, they see everything different to the way adults see things and they are always ready for adventure. At a campground or playground the kids are the ones that usually make contact first with other camping kids sometimes all they need is some type of ball and away they go, they have a game organised.
Young kids are usually much easier to amuse they are great at making their own games, always take a few of their favourite toys, books, games and a comforting soft toy or blanket. It’s also handy to have a few new books, colouring books, puzzles or something like that when they get upset and need distracting.
If you can give each child a small backpack or carry bag, they can carry and look after their own favourite toys etc. If there is enough room where they sit in the car they can have it with them or they can select a few things out of the bag to play with.
Toddlers and young children are usually great at napping in the car so try to work around these times and use them to your advantage.
