Going camping is a great experience, when you are starting out camping there is always a few questions you want answered. These questions are common ones asked by many campers.
Why can’t I get a good night’s sleep?
Sleeping in a tent or camper can be quite different to sleeping at home in your own comfy bed, therefore the first night or two you maybe restless.
Firstly your bed will be different like an air bed, stretcher, self inflating or a thin foam mattress, neither will probably match up to your home bed.
Also you will hear a lot more outside noise like animals bird noises & dogs that ‘bark’ all night which can sound like they are just outside your tent.
Other campers moving around in the middle of the night usually heading for the bathroom and you hear that ‘rrrrriiiiiippp’ of tent zips going up and down.
All this adds up to a restless sleep, eventually you either get so tired or you get used to the noise you sleep through all of it
Why is food scattered everywhere in the morning?
The local wildlife delights in finding scraps, getting into food packets and rubbish bags whenever they get the chance.
So when you leave camp for a walk or outing and night time pack all food in secure containers, or put them in your vehicle or trailer. Your rubbish also needs to be put somewhere secure while you are out and at night time.
Is camping next to the amenities a good idea?
It’s not usually a good a good idea to camp very close to the amenities as they attract a lot of traffic would be constantly walking past your camp, the lights are left on all night and quite a few people will visit the amenities at night and early in the morning to beat the morning rush.
If you can find a campsite that is just a little further away it can be perfect you won’t have the heavy traffic but you have the convenience of being fairly close to amenities.
