Going 4WDriving is a great adventure but you need to consider these things when you plan your trip.

Take Adequate Water

Next time you are planning a 4WD camping trip, the most important thing to remember is to take water. In remote areas there are very few safe places to get clean drinking water. Carry your own water in bottles and 10 or 20 litre jerry cans and a carry water purifier or at least water purifying tablets.

Weather Conditions

Weather conditions can change dramatically some times, a beautiful sunny day can quickly turn into a miserable day. Take suitable clothing for just about any weather condition and listen to the radio for weather reports so you know what weather to expect in your area.

Camping

When you set up your tent, don’t camp in dry creek beds or in low lying areas, choose a high or mounded position. If it happens to rain overnight you don’t want to wake up soaked. Also make sure your tent is waterproof and keep your bed etc, away from the inside of the tent as this will cause water to soak through the tent walls.

When you camp in National Parks and other campgrounds check the rules for that park. Don’t assume you can have a campfire, check first and also check where you are allowed to collect the firewood from. Always carry a fuel stove in case you cannot have a campfire.

Be considerate of others. Clean up after yourself so others can enjoy the outdoors too. Consider the wildlife as well. Many parks will not allow camping near water sources and feeding wildlife is always prohibited for their safety as well as your own.
