Cooking foil wrapped meals is an easy method camp cooking. Each meal can be wrapped up individually so each person can select their own ingredients.
Foil wrapped meals are quickly cooked on the campfire then it can be eaten straight out of the foil packet. Here are some useful tips to help make your camp meals very convenient, easy and quick.
1. Use good quality foil or two layers of the cheaper variety. Tear off a piece about 50cm fold in half, open again and place the raw food near fold in centre, that you would like to cook. A suggestion would be a thin hamburger and vegies like carrot, potato, onions, bacon, cheese & sauce of your choice also add a little oil or butter on foil first and add a little water or stock.
2. Then fold up your package securely around edges by folding side edges first then last edges, roll over several times and flatten edges.. This method requires moisture inside the packet to produce steam, therefore cooking the ingredients, so make sure there is some kind of moisture added. Many combinations ingredients can be cooked even desserts.
3. Place on coals, similiar to a baked potato, may take 15 – 20 minutes, depending on the heat of the coals. The food will not brown much as it is being steamed. Flip it over when you hear it sizlzling or at about ten minutes. Open carefully as inside should be steamy hot. Vegies should be soft when poked with a fork. Foil can be doubled if you have any trouble with food burning and move away from very hot coals. Enjoy!!
