You have decided to go camping or travelling and maybe you don’t know how to start planning your holiday. Here are some ideas to get your planning started.
Start with WHEN, WHERE, HOW and WHO is going.
WHEN are you going?
Check the calendar and workout when you can get away for your holiday. How long? Is it for a long weekend, a week, 3 weeks, 2 months or longer?
Remember you may have to organise your holiday around public holidays, school holidays or your annual holidays, sport, special events like weddings, special parties etc.
If you have a few options write them down or mark them on the calendar. You may need to check with members of your family as too when suits them.

WHERE are you going?
Knowing when you can go will help you decide where you are going. Find out the weather conditions for that time of the year.
For example - If it’s in winter you may want to go to the mountains or go north to escape the cold. If it’s warm weather you may wish to go for a coastal drive etc. If you live in the tropics and want to escape the humidity so you may head south.
HOW are you going?
Are you taking your car, do you need to tow a trailer, are you camping in a tent or do you have a camper, caravan, motor home etc.
Do you plan to go bush camping, staying in Holiday parks with all the amenities, rent a holiday house or go touring and keep moving, staying in each place several days.
Hiring a car, 4WD vehicle, camper trailer, campervan etc. is an option.
Taking your own car, stay in motels, cabins and then taking guided tours in possible if you want to go into or remote 4WD areas that your car may be not suitable for.
Fly to a destination then hire a car is a great option if you have limited time.
WHO is going?
Who is going? Is it just your family or are their several families going? If so you will need to work out all details with them, which can make things a little complicated sometimes.
Are you meeting another family or friends along the way or visiting someone while you are touring. Work out the dates that suit everyone.
Maybe one or some of your kids are working and unable to come.
Taking into consideration When Where How and Who is going will help you start planing your holiday. Enjoy your holiday wherever you go!
