What to do with your home while on holidays, If you leave your house looking abandoned and unlived in it’s going to get noticed. You don’t want your house being a target for burglars while you are away. Arrange for someone to keep it tidy and look like it is being used. Here are some tips & suggestions.
- Make sure all windows are closed and locked
- Activate deadlocks on all doors
- Lock garage, sheds and any other detached building
- Use timers to set your lights and television for several hours in the evening or if you have an automated system you may be able to be more elaborate and activate more appliances.
- If you have a monitored security alarm system let the security company know you will be away and them contact details for a neighbour or family members.
- Get your mail kept at the post office or have someone collect it every day from your letter box. Cancel the delivery of newspapers.
- Don’t leave a spare key any where obvious, probably best not to leave a spare key hidden anywhere, leave it with your neighbour or family etc.
- Put a few things outside that don’t matter if they disappear. Put some old clothes on the clothesline and a few objects sitting around like a bit of gardening equipment, chairs etc.
- Ask someone to park their car in the driveway or out the front occasionally.
- Mow the lawn before you leave and arrange for someone to mow it regularly.
