Days 8 to 12 - In July 2003 my family left home for another exciting journey. Our destination was the ‘Kimberley’ in Western Australia. We travelled from Victoria to South Australia, then to the Northern Territory and to Western Australia via the Tanami Track, then did a circuit of the Kimberley including the Gibb River Road then across to Katherine and down south home on the Stuart Highway. We travelled about 10,000 kilometres in 6 weeks.

Day 8 – The Bungle Bungles were just incredible, we have all seen photos of the beehive domes, there was so much more to see. This photo is of Cathedral Gorge
This is us on the walking track to Cathredral Gorge. Everywhere we went the Bungle Bungles were quite different and spectacular.
Driving past this section of the Domes, the colours in this photo are very typical of the Kimberley, beautiful blue skys, red rocks or dirt and the dry scrubby grass,
Day 9 - We left the Bungle Bungles and drove to Fitzroy Crossing. We stayed at the Fitzroy River Lodge, which was very large and catered for every type of accommodation.
Day 10 &11 The next day we went on the Geike River boat cruise on the Fitzroy River. The guide was aboriginal and explained how the gorge was so important and it’s history, he also spoke about the plants they used for particular illnesses and the ones that were edible. The white rock on the cliff shows the water level in the wet season.
The next day we drove to to Tunnel Creek, which is a tunnel that we waded through water in the dark and we all carried torches. This was quite an experience. The photo shows daylight at the other end, it took at least 30 minutes to wade through.
Day 12 - Next stop was Broome which is well known for it’s pearls, pearl shops everywhere., simliar to Cobber Pedy and it’s opals. After we had settled in at the park we walked to Cable Beach and watched the sunset.

I have heard about the Bungle Bungles from my friends who are over there I thought they were joking about the name until I Googled it. They were very impressed too!
